We had a great time visiting family in Oklahoma this past week -- as well as checking out rural landscapes like this one.
Even though I grew up in Oklahoma City, for some reason it was important for me to show CC the rural parts of the state. Driving from OKC to Tulsa with her, I found myself pointing out farms, horses, cows, ponds -- essentially competing with iPhone apps. I got a kick out of her shouting, "Cows!" and "Does that one cow have friends?"
She doesn't get to see that part of the country very often -- she's definitely a California girl -- and I want to at least try to make it stick, if even for a week.
It's funny how important your roots become once you're a parent.
